A. Stimulate Your Senses:

What is this place? What is available in this place?

Who is in the photo? What is that person doing?

Where is this place? When was the photo taken?

When does it appear this photo is taken? Now? in the Past?

The picture was taken in the media center at Illinois Wesleyan University. This place offers access to different media tools. This is a photo of James Shaw. He is in the media center giving a presentation to a group of third grade students. The photo was taken in November of 1979. I found this information through a link to the Illinois Wesleyan website. The photo appears to be taken in the past because the objects in the media center include camera slides and cassettes, which are hardly used anymore.

B. Change:

What's changed? What's still the same? What replaced this scene and why?

Some things that have changed area the current technologies that are present in the media center. Some of the things that remain the same are the availability of a media center and a teacher teaching to students. This scene has been replaced by more current technologies, such as digital cameras and cds.

C. Imagine You Are There:

Write a letter about how your day was when this picture was taken.

My class went to visit Illinois Wesleyan University today. We went to the media center where a teacher talked to us about the media center and its uses. We listened to the teacher tell us about all of the cool technologies. We got to view slides and listen to a cassette tape. The pictures were so clear and colorful; I liked seeing them a lot. We listened to my favorite book on tape, and that made me really excited. We passed around the cassettes and slides, and I went home and told my mom that I wanted to buy some for our house. I hope I get to go back there soon!

I vividly remember this awesome experience too. Our class was so excited to go the the media center. I couldn't believe how advanced the techonology was back then, but look where we are today! I miss listening to cassettes and watching slides. I have such a hard time figuring out how to use those dang cds and dvds..oh those were the days!
